I felt like I had nothing to give to the world that I was about to enter. “Let’s face it”, I reasoned, “I get horrible grades; I don’t even know if I’ll get to walk on graduation day! I’ve never made the cut when it comes to team sports, and I even a girl friend told me I’d never amount to anything, because I had no plan for my life.” \r\n\r\nI didn’t want to go on. Then something happened, I accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and surrendered my life to Him. I prayed “Jesus, take my life, I don’t want to go on, if this is all there is.” \r\n\r\nJesus answered that prayer. I gave Him my life and He gave me a future and a hope. \r\nThat’s not all; He gave me a new identity. The Bible tells us that “…anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And what a wonderful life it is. -2 Corinthians 5:17\r\n\r\nI stopped trying to be somebody. Because of Him, I realized I was somebody… because He said so! \r\n\r\nGod promises that all who receive His Son Jesus, as Lord and Savior, become His children” (- John 1:12) If you’re a child of God, you’re His masterpiece, you’re His treasure, you’re a new and beautiful creation. Don’t you forget it! \r\n\r\nIf you’re feeling like you have been drowning in your circumstance, and sick of the way your life has been going, if you feel worthless, there is hope; Jesus came to turn the tide in your life, so turn to Him now and let Him give you a future and a hope, like he’s done for me. -Jeremiah 29:11 \r\n\r\n\r\nPart 2\r\n\r\nHello, I’m Pastor Ryan with Cornerstone Church in Lodi, and this, is a Cornerstone Moment.\r\n\r\nLast Spring I was doing some much needed yard work, after strong winter winds had wreaked havoc and caused damage to my fence-line, garage and house. One task I had to tackle was trimming a large tree in front of my house that had damaged the gutters. I jumped up on the roof and began cutting, sawing and breaking branches away from the house. I then proceeded to trim down other branches, from the inside out, down below and up-top. When my wife returned home she said, “What happened to the tree, it’s half the tree it use to be?” \r\n\r\nNow, I knew that my tree-trimming skills were mediocre at best. After seeing my work, even a neighbor shouted, “Don’t you come near to my yard with them clippers!” \r\n\r\nA funny thing is, through the summer, that tree grew even more beautiful than it was before, and the leaves were much healthier, as were the cherry plumbs it grew. \r\n\r\nAs I reminisced about my tree trimming experience I thought, wow, that’s the story of my life! How often has He brought me through hard situations, where I felt cut down, defeated and shabby, and He built me back up again, even stronger and more fruitful than before? There are many times that God has been the tree trimmer in my life, getting rid of dead branches, that weren’t baring fruit and were harmful to myself and others. He’s all about making us the best tree we can be!\r\n\r\nWe’re reminded in Ephesians chapter 2:10 that we are God’s Masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us...” \r\n\r\nEveryone who has come into a relationship with God through His Son Jesus is considered a masterpiece, that will continue to be trimmed like that tree, in order to stay healthy, produce good fruit and live a truly abundant life. \r\n\r\n \r\nPart 3\r\n\r\nHello, I’m Pastor Ryan with Cornerstone Church in Lodi, and this is a Cornerstone Moment.\r\n\r\nMany years ago I took a group of students on a camping trip. Boy did we have a crazy and unforgettable time. One of the memories I have from the trip was when Josh, a rambunctious, 16 year old, picked a fight with a momma bear and her cubs! There we were, hunkering down for the night, telling stories and staring into the night sky, when about 40 yards away we heard clatter coming from where the dumpster and bathrooms were located. I said to the group, “You know what that is.” Just then my wife and several of the girls jumped up screaming and dove into their tents, which made my heart jump and I responded like-wise, followed by most of the others. Several youth jumped into one of the vans and then silence. One of the youth whispered, “Where’s Josh?” I said, “I thought He was with you”. Next thing we knew, there was Josh walking toward the Bathrooms and the dumpster, yelling “What, you want some of this?” We all started yelling for him to come back. My wife told me to go get him , I said, “Na ah, I’m not going out there.” Suddenly Josh started running back to the van, the door swung open and he dove in. \r\n\r\nShortly after that the momma bear and her two cubs slowly and steadily shuffled past the van, and our tents, and went on their way. No harm done.\r\nThinking back on that night I’m reminded of how there have been times in my life that I put myself in harms way, not physical harm but spiritual harm. When I’ve been tempted to sin, and contemplated how far I could go, and still be a follower of Jesus. You see Jesus understands our temptation, and He wants us to steer clear of sin and its harmful effects. He came to save us from it, and bring us into the Light.\r\n\r\nIn Ephesians chapter 5 Verse 8 we read, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light” \r\n\r\nChildren of the light have no place rushing out into the darkness, to the dumpster, where the bears hang out, figuratively speaking. God has a better plan for you than the dumpster life! \r\n\r\n\r\nPart 4\r\n\r\nHello, I’m Pastor Ryan with Cornerstone Church in Lodi, and this, is a Cornerstone Moment.\r\n\r\nAs a kid my uncle would take us up to a place called Knights Ferry, where we’d fish, swim in the river, jump off large boulders into the water below, go rafting and canoeing. One summer, my uncle took my brother and I canoeing, and shortly after launch we came to our first set of rapids. Now, I was fairly young, and new to this whole canoeing bit, and when we came upon these rapids my heart began to race. Thinking back on it, they weren’t real impressive white-water sort of rapids, but nonetheless, to me back then, they were monstrous. “keep it straight” my uncle yelled, “stay in the middle, watch the rocks.” Now, By the time I turned 10 I believed whatever could go wrong, would go wrong for me. I didn’t have a whole lot of confidence boosting experiences as a child. And here I was, not only flowing sideways, but not staying in the middle, and definitely not avoiding the rocks. And so I hit, flipped side-ways; water filling the canoe, and pulling me beneath it and between the rocks. I remember my panic, as my uncle quickly came to my aide, by giving me calm, clear, direct instruction, that enabled me to some-how break loose from the situation and float safely toward him. He pulled me up, told me good job and then worked to recover the canoe. \r\n\r\nNow if I hadn’t listened to His instruction to stay cool, calm, and collected, and if I hadn’t followed his clear, direct guidance, I image it could have turned out a whole lot worse for me. Who knows! \r\n\r\nIt’s the same in our relationship with God. Through the rapids of life He is our guide, paddling along-side us, giving instruction, there to rescue us. When the world attempts to pull us under He’s there, beckoning us to look to Him, to follow His lead and obey His command, if we want to live. \r\n\r\n1 John 3:24 says, “The one who keeps God’s commands lives… in Him” \r\n \r\nTo obey God is to live, and to live is to make it out of some dire straits, with God by your side. \r\n\r\n\r\nPart 5\r\n\r\nHello, I’m Pastor Ryan with Cornerstone Church in Lodi, and this is a Cornerstone Moment.\r\n\r\nI grew up in a single parent family with an older brother and a younger sister. My early childhood consisted of many moves, from one apartment to another, one town to another, and in and out of grandma and grandpa’s house and beyond. Boy did I love being out at grandma and grandpa’s place, especially during the 4th of July celebrations. My grandparents would host the most elaborate parties, inviting people from all over the neighborhood to enjoy a huge BBQ, Hayrides, live music, fireworks and more. One of my favorite attractions: A big watering trough filled with ice and beverages, contributed by the many guests. I remember after one fourth of July party visiting that trough to partake in the left-over’s, or left-behinds. My plan was to stock up my makeshift fort out back, behind my grandpa’s garage, to assure hydration over the next few days as I ran around playing army, with guns and grenades made out of what-ever I could dig up in my grandpa’s old shed. Orange Crush, Pepsi Cola, Grape Soda; The works! Then it happened. He found me, I don’t know how but he found me. \r\n\r\nYou couldn’t get nothing past my grandpa; a Sergeant in the Marine Corp, who saw action in Korea. He raided my bunker and took my rations. I was found out. My grandpa never needed to dish out any punishment, all he needed to do is give you the look. You know, the look of shame, disappointment, and then he’d just walk away. The guilt would take over, take back, and attempt to make amends. \r\n\r\nAmong the many qualities I recall about my grandfather, was that we, his grand-kids, wouldn’t stay on his naughty list for long. Whether from losing his tools, letting the dogs in the house, or stealing soda from his party, he was slow to anger, quick to forgive and he would always be our papa no matter what. \r\n\r\nThe same rings true with God, He’s slow to anger, quick to forgive and He welcomes us with open arms every-time. \r\n\r\n1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” \r\n\r\nGod is ready when we are. He knows what’s been stashed away in your life, He knows it when we’re attempting to hide and live lives that are contrary to the family name we bare. And He patiently waits for our admittance and return, and when we do He immediately restores us and sets us on His lap. \r\n\r\nPart 6\r\n\r\nHello, I’m Pastor Ryan with Cornerstone Church in Lodi and this is a Cornerstone Moment.\r\n\r\nAre you someone who occasionally has random dreams in the night; filled with bazaar imagery, or beset with your greatest fears? \r\nThe other night, I must have eaten too much pepperoni pizza, for my dream was memorable, freakish and worth sharing. \r\nThere I was, up in an airliner with a few friends, including my pastor! I have no clue as to where we were heading, but I love to fly. I love to have dreams that I’m flying. So right from the start I thought, this is great! \r\n\r\nThere we were walking around the cabin of the plane, chatting it up, when the captain came on the speaker and told us there was turbulence ahead and that we’d best get seated and buckled up. I don’t know about the others, but I hopped over to my seat and buckled up. \r\n\r\nThen it happened, like a scene out of the movie Top Gun! The engines lost power and we began to fall out of the sky in a flat spin. My first impulse was to panic, but for some reason I quickly switched gears in my mind and thought, hey if this is it, I’m going to give thanks to the Lord for the life he’s given me, and of course, I asked Him to save us! \r\n \r\nImmediately after, the engines came back to life, the thrusters burned brightly, and our destination was changed. We were launched back on course with our flight plan.\r\n\r\nThe crazy dream reminded me of a Bible verse, 2 Chronicles 7:14, “…if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” \r\n\r\nI realize, as a follower of Jesus, that I am on a great adventure with Him, and adventure that requires me to keep my eyes on Him, stay focused, follow His lead and instruction; trust that I will arrive safely at my final destination, no matter how turbulent life gets. \r\n\r\nRomans 10:13, \"Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.\" May be you feel like your life is in a flat spin, following out of the sky. God is asking that you call out to Him, that you put your faith in Jesus Christ, allow Him to give you hope and assurance today, and set you on a path, a flight-plan, to experiencing His faithfulness and His favor, day by day. Crazy stories that make you laugh so hard you cry! …Stories of transformation, when you first felt the Spirit of God working in your heart. Memories, of staying up late, eating way too much, and having meaningful conversations about God, Life and more. \r\n\r\nRetreats Refresh, cause reflection and inspire us toward living the abundant life that God has called us to. While away, the women will be diving into the topic: “What happens when women say yes to God”. We want to thank Sara, Chris, Rose, Betty and DeeDee for the hard work that has gone into preparing for this much anticipated retreat. We’re so grateful for you all! \r\n\r\nPastor Mark has had such a great response this year, the youth are occupying two boats, instead of one, and taking more students than ever before! This is a testimony to how awesome these trips have been over the years, and how God is still using this retreat to draw students to Himself while having a great time!\r\nWe want to encourage everyone to be in prayer for our ladies and our youth, that God would use these trips and retreats to accomplish His loving purpose in the hearts of all who are involved! “Here’s-to” another wonderful summer of great experiences! \r\n\r\n",{"metadata":243,"sys":246,"fields":255},{"tags":244,"concepts":245},[],[],{"space":247,"id":249,"type":15,"createdAt":250,"updatedAt":250,"environment":251,"publishedVersion":66,"revision":66,"contentType":253,"locale":28},{"sys":248},{"type":11,"linkType":12,"id":13},"1mV6FvsJ1Cg0MsoYsCaICC","2018-04-22T04:15:18.737Z",{"sys":252},{"id":20,"type":11,"linkType":21},{"sys":254},{"type":11,"linkType":26,"id":200},{"title":256,"path":257,"date":240,"body":258},"Church Life Updates - May 2013","186-church-life-updates-may-2013","There are many wonderful and new things happening this month, but we thought it would be more that appropriate and appreciated to begin by sharing how-much our mothers mean to us! So let’s do so through the lens of God’s Word.\r\n\r\nIn John chapter 19 verses 26-27 we read, “When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son!’ Then He said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother!’ And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.” What strikes me most about this passage is the importance Jesus places on the care and comfort of His mother, as He is enduring great pain, suffering and torment. Here Jesus is, hanging on a cross. Exhausted, beaten and battered. He could rightfully and understandably “check-out”, but passing in and out of consciousness He utters powerful words of comfort, concern and control. He commands that His mother be taken in and cared for; adopted so to speak. Though Jesus had four half brothers and several sisters he plead with John, a dearly loved disciple, to make sure that she would be honored. Jesus had built, and is still building, His family the church. His mother was part of this new family by Christ’s command and initiative. In the same way God initiates Himself today through the church, asking us to take in those whom He loves, including our own mothers.\r\n\r\nJesus honored His mother, setting an example for us. Jesus didn’t always agree with His mom, and He even said a thing or two that have caused some to speculate whether He rejected His mother at a time during His ministry. But we see here that this wasn’t true in the least. She may have been out of sync with Him here and there, but over-all the Son cared deeply for His mother and made it real obvious. I can imagine that when Jesus spoke these words, His mother at the time felt helpless, powerless and even confused. She couldn’t save Him, offer Him adequate comfort in His misery, or rescue her little boy (as mothers often feel about their grown children). Yet Jesus offers to her what she could never give to Him.\r\n\r\nWe are left this narrative of Jesus’ interaction with His mother for a reason; for many reasons at that. One of which is for us to imitate Christ. To offer to our mothers perhaps what they could never give to us, for one reason or another. Maybe your mom still sees herself as your guardian, though the role has somewhat been reversed. Maybe you have always “parented” your mother. Perhaps your mother still parents you and it is greatly appreciated! Maybe your mother has passed away and Mother’s Day brings up painful, or pleasant memories. Whatever your situation is with your mother, honor her as Jesus honored His.\r\n\r\n“Who can find a virtuous woman? She is far more precious than jewels... Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and loving instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle. Her sons rise up and call her blessed. He husband also praises her: Many women are capable, but you surpass them all! Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.” ~Proverbs 31:10, 25-30",{"metadata":260,"sys":263,"fields":272},{"tags":261,"concepts":262},[],[],{"space":264,"id":266,"type":15,"createdAt":267,"updatedAt":267,"environment":268,"publishedVersion":66,"revision":66,"contentType":270,"locale":28},{"sys":265},{"type":11,"linkType":12,"id":13},"4NqEm5Hqx2UMKuAQCsiamM","2018-04-22T04:15:18.790Z",{"sys":269},{"id":20,"type":11,"linkType":21},{"sys":271},{"type":11,"linkType":26,"id":200},{"title":273,"path":274,"date":275,"body":276},"Church Life Updates - April 2013","184-church-life-updates-april-2013","2013-04-05T00:00","March was a wonderful month of ministry, with a fantastic conclusion; our Easter Celebration. Easter Worship was awesome! The Video Presentation and Drama was phenomenal, the Message was right-on, our brunch was off the hook, the Easter Egg Hunt was very exciting, and everyone seemed to have an amazing time! We can’t appreciate enough those who made it all possible, including our Awesome God who was the center of our celebration. Thank you for praying, inviting friends and family, contributing supplies, and getting involved in activities like canvassing. Ultimately, our greatest hope is that our celebration was pleasing to the Lord Jesus, the significance of His resurrection overly emphasized and that lives were changed by the power of the gospel! \r\n\r\nApril is an exciting month at Cornerstone, as we also gear up for several great activities in May. First off, this month we will be closing out our Teaching Series, God-Packed Life, and in May launching a New Series: In The Light. A Team is being assembled to serve at Our Own Cornerstone Booth, in pursuit of creative ways to share God’s love in our community. We know that sharing God’s love doesn’t just happen at a Special Event or Sunday Church Service, but God gives us opportunity daily to express His love. How has God inspired you to share His love in the community, at church, in your work-place, or on the home-front? We want to encourage you to heed His prompting, and follow His lead. \r\n\r\nGOT TALENT? Here’s another thing to look forward to: We’re putting on a show, the long-awaited A Talent Show is coming back on Sunday May 26th, which means April is the time to start thinking about how you can bless the church family with your God-Given Talent. Talent’s abound at Cornerstone, and so start prepping for an incredible show. We can’t wait! In addition to that our team brought and gave away 150 backpacks for school age kids. Plus we shared the gospel message wherever we went.\r\n\r\nOur work teams also re-roofed 2 houses and installed a 30X 30 foot plastic tarp on a house badly damaged by weather. The challenge of the tarp was a huge 40 mph. wind that nearly blew our team off the roof.\r\n\r\nThank you for praying for our team. Your prayers got us through Tijuana late at night when we were lost in 1000's of cars of traffic and could not find the right entrance to the border crossing. God saved 2 of our cars from being slammed by a bus. At one point I was so lost and confused that I prayed out loud \" I have no idea where I am Lord, you will have to drive this car for us\".\r\n\r\nWe did make it safely to the border crossing but then waited 2 hours to get through the traffic jam to U.S.A.\r\n\r\nGod is good. He stretched our faith. He proved His strength. He showed His love. He blessed our lives.\r\n\r\nNext time it is your turn to go to Baja.\r\n\r\nRemember \"When God says go don't say no\"\r\n\r\nToday there are many people now on their way to heaven because you prayed for our effectiveness as a team to evangelize the receptive hearts of the Baja people.\r\n\r\n",{"metadata":332,"sys":335,"fields":344},{"tags":333,"concepts":334},[],[],{"space":336,"id":338,"type":15,"createdAt":339,"updatedAt":339,"environment":340,"publishedVersion":66,"revision":66,"contentType":342,"locale":28},{"sys":337},{"type":11,"linkType":12,"id":13},"4i5lmrHvn2mGgm2K8QSMou","2018-04-22T04:15:19.011Z",{"sys":341},{"id":20,"type":11,"linkType":21},{"sys":343},{"type":11,"linkType":26,"id":200},{"title":345,"path":346,"date":347,"body":348},"Becoming Baja Missionaries","179-becoming-baja-missionaries","2012-09-28T00:00","Our team is almost ready to go and fulfill the great commission in Baja Oct. 6-13.\r\n\r\nWill you pray for our team from now until we return?\r\n\r\nWe have many challenges ahead of us.\r\n\r\nThis is the first trip for four of our team members. No one needs to travel to Baja or Haiti to experience the daily struggle to survive. \r\n\r\nOur team brought hope, food, testimonies, music, clothes and the message of God's love to over 120 people that day. We spoke with the young and the old, the sick, the abandoned, the lonely addict, the unemployed, and the too disabled to work even if there was a job available.\r\n\r\nA young teenager came to Jesus for the first time. She had Cancer of the most serious nature. We anointed her with oil and prayed for a miracle in her life. \r\n\r\nA young man was there because he was kicked out of his home. The authorities said it was uninhabitable for children. Now he and his two little boys live in a small room at the shelter.\r\n\r\nA young lady came to thank our band for the praise music and the entire team for coming to encourage her. It was her wake-up call to get out of the pit of life she was in. Our ladies prayed for her and it seemed to make a big difference.\r\n\r\nIt is sad to report that many who stayed there claimed to be Christians, but somehow never translated the love and message of Jesus into real victorious living. They never really took it seriously and Christianity became just a religion to them. I guess that is what happens when people simply give lip service to the great God and His awesome promises He personally makes to each of us.\r\n\r\nHave you ever noticed yourself being guilty of just making \"god-talk\"?\r\n\r\nI must confess that I have certainly been guilty of that kind of speaking and thinking. It can be rather easy to just speak Christian words and not really practice them in faith. I think Jesus would call that hypocrisy. \r\n\r\nThe homeless shelter was once again a wake-up call to me. \"Don't just talk like a Christian and pretend like a Christian but really live like one.\"\r\n\r\nI think our entire team was humbled that day to see what can happen to anyone. I remember the saying \"There but for the grace of God go I\". \r\n\r\nIf you want a wake-up call, just drop by your nearest homeless shelter. There reality hits home in a very big hurry.",1786964477737]
