TWO AND ONE HALF YEARS

Our friends came to church last Sunday and brought their newly adopted Haitian daughter, Claire.

Such a great blessing!! She is healthy, loving, happy, motivated and with a mind of her own. She is literally starting life over again.

It will be 100% different from the past. She was lifted out of poverty and one meal per day. She had a life with 40 other kids crowded in the group home. Her guardian was Lydie, the owner of the home and mayor of the town. Lydie is a great sacrificial Christian but who can care for 40 kids alone?

Today Claire's new life includes a wonderful Christian family with 3 terrific siblings, her own room, all the clothes she can ever wear, an abundance of food, also a special terrific church family and a Christian public school teacher who calls her parents every day.

As the Bryditzki family told their miracle story of answered prayers with God's perfect timing everyone that day marvelled. I remember hearing Scott say, "we waited TWO AND ONE HALF YEARS."

"Patient endurance is what you need now".

Dear Lord help me to be willing to wait. His answers are always worth it

God is great if you will wait. What are you waiting for?

HAITIAN CELEBRATION

Amidst great devastion and tragedy there are some victories.

As you probably know five hundred orphans have been legally admitted to the U.S. immediately after the earthquake. These children were already in process when the earthquake propelled them into the loving arms of excited parents.

Pam and I have personal friends who adopted one such beautiful seven year old Haitian girl named Claire.

Claire is now with her new parents in Lake of the Pines. They will be our special guests Sunday Feb. 28th. I invite you to come and hear the great story of faith by Scott and Debbie Bryditski.

"All things work together for good to those who love the Lord." There is hope! There is joy! It can happen amidst great loss.

Many times Pam and I have seen God do great things inspite of tragedy and loss.

If you are now in one of those bad places I encourage you to "wait on the Lord" trust Him completely and hang onto faith.

Your celebration is just around the corner and God has not forgotten your needs.

HAITI CRISIS

WE are all shocked at the devastation.

Many want to adopt all the orphans off the streets!

I am amazed that very little orderly goverment exists.

I want to take a team from Cornerstone to go ASAP to help show Jesus love and bring aid to the victims.

Many ask the question, WHY? I am currently preaching on the subject and will post the messages on line soon.

My first answer is this. "The secret things belong to the Lord our God" Deut. 29:29. There are lots of secrets in our world. God is not obligated to explain everything. He doesn't have to tell those secrets. We probably would not understand even if He did explain! ! !

Verse 29 says that some things are revealed and some things are concealed (secret). What is revealed I must obey and what is concealed I must trust.

The entire Christian life can be explained in two words. TRUST AND OBEY.

We are waiting and praying for direction to take a team to Haiti. Do you want to go with us?

AIR TRAVEL

Pam and I left for our vacation three times.

Preparing to go on vacation is half the fun they say. You know, all the talk, planning, dreaming, and wishing is so much fun.

Well, we had three times as much fun as anyone. We actually went to the airport three times in one day thinking our plane would really taxi down the runway and fly away.

Our adventure began at 5:30 a.m. when we left home the first time. Airline officials said, "Your plane had a bird strike and is being repaired. This plane won't leave till 4 p.m." So we went home.

Later we showed up at the airport ready to go at 4 p.m. But the plane was not fixed. They said, "come back later ready to leave at 1 a.m."

What, 1 a.m.? You mean 1 a.m. in the morning? So now we had another delay of 9 more hours.

Thankfully, our son Brantley called us and asked us to come to his home for dinner. What a life saver!! It was so much fun being with our Brantley family and we also used up a few more hours waiting and waiting.

Back to the airport the third time, we waited 2 1/2 more hours for the 1 a.m flight.
This time it left on schedule.

Somehow that vacation reminds me of our endurance flight half way around the world to Ukraine.

On a mission trip we always prepare for the unknown, the unexpected, and the undercover problems---but not on vacation.

That night we were being stretched beyond flexible to some new spiritual lesson, I guess.

What is really amazing about this entire experience is that before we left I had just preached my point # 5 on PRACTICE PATIENCE AND WAIT.

God was turning the sermon around and now showing me what it means to wait.

Let's see, from start to finish the "patient and waiting time" amounted to 16 1/2 hours.

I can be patient but---that was just plain crazy!

I think I will wait a few years before preaching on "Patience" again.

Do you know what I mean?

NEW ROAD

Face Your Fear-Take a New Road This Year.

At the beginning of each year I seem to ask myself the same question.

"I wonder what will happen this new year?"

As I look back on 2009 many things did happen.

My sister-in-law after being sick all year long went home to heaven on Nov.13th. On that very same day our new granddaughter was born.

It was a new road.

Last year Cornerstone had a special year of being a servant church in many ways and God paid all our bills. YEAH!

It was a new road.

On our fall Baja Mission Trip one of our team members died the first day at camp and one of our other members almost had a life and death crisis when his artery burst. It could have been fatal.

It was a new road.

Every year is full of surprizes. However I remember what God says. "He will have no fear of bad news, his heart is stedfast, trusting in the Lord." Ps. 112:7

Faith in God takes the fear out of any bad news.

Yes the new year will be a new road to be sure. There will be the GOOD, BAD, and UGLY. But there will also be many really great wonderful surprizes of immense colossal joy.

We can expect a new road with turns, curves, detours, stop signs, and stuff! Included will also be breathtaking vistas with great mountain top experiences with God and other believers.

"All things work together for good" so don't be afraid of the new road.

Face Your Fear-Take a New Road This Year.

It will be an awesome ride.

CHRISTMAS OXYMORON

As usual Jesus is once again left out of Christmas.

Every year it is the same. No Christ in Christmas. No good news as the Angels announced. Nothing about the Lord in this another so called HOLIDAY.

For so many people they celebrate a "pagan holiday" That's "godless holy day"

If there ever was an oxymoron it is this "an unholy holy day without God" Well that's our disfunctional irreligious society. Can you wish someone a happy unholy day with God voided out of existence?

What do people do with a"god-less holy-day" ?? That kind of Un-Christmas makes no sense.

There is nothing to celebrate. But it happens every year. Celebrating for Zero reasons. A Zero is nothing with the edges rubbed out and worthless.

So in our intelllectual highly educated world, people "Celebrate without the Celebrity" Yes that's right a party for no one. A massive honoring ceremony but the guest of honor is avoided and in the name of political correctness shunned as inappropriate to even mention his name lest someone might be offended.

We shall avoid the oxymoron. We celebrate with purpose. We honor the Celebrity and call Him by name. The name above every name. The name by which every knee shall bow in heaven and earth.

Help us at Cornerstone to keep Christ in Christmas. Make it a "Godly Holy Day". Let's make sure that we give Him the gifts that He deserves. The gifts of devotion, sacrifice, and service.

We should also make sure that we receive the gifts He has to give us this Christmas. His gifts are the personal gifts of PEACE,JOY, LOVE, SALVATION.

Have a blessed Holy Day with Christ in Christmas.

GIVE AND TAKE

Sure you know all about this. Right? Everyone does.

"The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord"

Pam and I recently experienced the loss of my sister-in-law and very special friend Barbara Payne Grizzle. She went home to heaven on Friday Nov.13th.

We went back to the memorial service and I conducted the celebration of her homegoing to be with the Lord.

Barbara was a Pastor's wife for over 20 years then single a mother of four and doing medical missions work in the summertime. She was an anesthetist and often went to Dominican Republic and other places for the Lord's work.

The Lord has taken away a very special servant !

But now the Lord also gives too.

On that very same day the Lord gave us another member of our family. Siena was born into our Payne clan and Brantley and Lubi Payne are the wonderful parents.

What a joy she is with beautiful skin color and a permanent smile on her face. She is healthy, quiet and seldom even whimpers. An angel from God to be sure and she was given as a gift to our grateful family.

Letting go of Barbara was hard but receiving what God had to give us was easy.

Whether it is a loss taken or a gift given we come to learn to say "Blessed be the name of the Lord"

God never makes mistakes.

REFRIGERATOR

Yes, God even gives away refrigerators! !

One of our families at Cornerstone had a need . In fact they were living out of an ice chest(you know, milk and baby bottles and other things needing special treatment).

So we made the need known at church. More than one person responded "let me know if you need money"

That afternoon I checked the local "want ads" for the needed item. Sure enough there were several listed.

I randomly picked one and the owner happened to be a former faithful to Cornerstone when we were at the warehouse. Can you imagine that?

The refrigerator was listed at $300. but she gave it away at no charge. Yes, no charge!

Later that week our faithful members with pickup truck and "dolly", easily did the rest.

WOW, God even loves to give away very beautiful and expensive refrigerators.

What is your need today?

JURY DUTY POSTPONED

I got a reprieve. Yes, I had an excuse. I needed to be out of town a few days. They let me reschedule.

I postponed the inevitable. Are you good at that like me?

AMAZING

If I don't like an appointment---just reschedule

If I want to avoid a bad scene---just reschedule

If I don't want to face a responsibility---just reschedule

How many times can a person do that anyway?

Foolishly I think, well if I ignore it then it will soon go away. If I pretend it isn't there maybe it will disappear.

Have you discovered what I did? When I ignore my responsibilities and deny my accountabilities they always pile up high and then I always get depressed. (What else should I expect)

However when I face up to them and take care of them in a timely manner BIG SURPRIZE.

The depression "miraculously" disappears. Maybe that is a spiritual lesson?

LODI HAD A STORM

It happened Tues. Oct.13th.

We had high winds all day at a sustained 40 mph. There was also 2-3 inches of rain in one day. Many trees were broken uprooted and split. Gutters were clogged and drains were filled with debris.

Many people were without power and waited long hours to get lights returned to normal.

It was a very bad storm!!!!!

But....not like the tsunami in Thailand a few years ago.

But.... not like the recent typhoon in the South Pacific.

But ....not like the Oakland Firestorm.

But.... not like Katrina in New Orleans.

When we remember how bad the other storms were we can certainly give thanks for our Lodi storm.

Many people were killed in the other storms but none in Lodi. Thank you Lord for our storm.

Many homes were lost in the other storms. Thank you Lord for our storm.

Many people lost everything in the other storms. Thank you Lord for our Lodi storm.

When we see the big picture.... suddenly our storm was really really great.

JURY DUTY

Oh, No, not again! ! ! It seems like yesterday and now--- they sent me my letter of doom again! You know how it goes----- two boring days sitting in the basement of the Jury Room doing nothing but reading year old magazines.

This is a terrible waste of time, MY TIME. I hate going to court waiting for the attorney to interrogate each and every candidate about their personal views justice. If you don't answer correctly, then sometimes it means a lecture on the correct answer.

Can't they find someone else to do this awful and horrible job? I'm too busy to serve!

I don't like being around this criminal element of society.

So each year I go through the same old complaints of resistence and bitter rancor.

It reminds me of how we believers act when God asks us to serve Him. I guess we could call it "DISCIPLE DUTY".

Oh, No, I've got to serve God again. He wants me to lead a class, work with Jr. Hi. kids or help on the clean up crew.

Why do we often react at the word "service" or"servant"??

It is the greatest blesing in the world to serve God.

Jesus was a servant and so are we today. When you and I do it with a wholehearted gratitude then it pays off with great joy.

Next time you get asked to serve try it with joy and you will see the wonderful difference.

So have fun serving Him today.

IN JESUS NAME

What a debate! It happened at Hutchins Street Square. So many voices and opinions.

It was all hot and tense over the City Council allowing prayer in Jesus name.

Approximately 500-600 people showed up and almost 50 people claimed the microphone to express their views on this most important controversy. Now when 50 people each one is allowed 4 minutes to promote their views you can imagine how long the meeting lasted.

All kinds of people and opinions came out into the open. There were plenty of atheists from places other than Lodi ( a few were lodians) also agnostics, lots of unbelievers, Jews, Buddhists, other religions and those who wanted silent prayers, no prayers, nonsectarian prayers and Christian prayers.

I believe the majority who came showed up in force and wanted "uncensored prayers"

The council after41/2 hours selected uncensored prayer as the will of the people and best way to honor freedom of speech and religion in Lodi. Congrats to the council!!!

I was greatly moved by some testimonies of what speakers said Jesus had done for them in their lives and "why would anybody want to speak against Jesus who loves them and wants the best for them".

I was chagrined by some "Christians" who embarassed the faith we love so much and weakened the witness to the world.

I listened to atheists offended by the name of Jesus. I heard agnostics who didn't know Jesus and thought that others shouldn't know Him either.

But the most moving was the man who simply quoted Phil. 2:9-11

"Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him a name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

That was the bombshell of the night for me!

No matter who--- atheists or agnostics or Jesus haters--- everyone will someday say JESUS IS LORD.

Now that is the debate winner. Jesus is the winner. He is LORD.

When you pray in Jesus name you also become a winner.

BOLDNESS

In Baja on our recent mission trip we learned boldness. There were ten on our team.

Only nine came back.

One of our beloved members was called home to heaven while we were all there at home base of IDT.

He was bold in going with us. He was 84 years young and loved the Baja mission ministry so very much. Our team had to be bold in the shock of letting him go while staying on to complete our work we were called to do.

We will greatly miss our special friend, Warren Moten. We are glad he is now in the great presence of Almighty God.

The entire trip was one requiring boldness.

It took boldness to cross the border. It took boldness on Hwy. 1 in Baja. That 2 lane road was laden with 100's of 18 wheelers speeding over mountain roads at 60 mph around blind double yellow lines. We became bold in faith to survive with them.

We became bold in the unknown's. Everyday our schedule got changed and we had to adapt, give up plans, and adopt new ones. The key word in missions is FLEXIBILITY.

King David said "You make me bold" He meant GOD of course! God alone makes me bold.

Our team went to Baja and came home a little more bold.

What are you facing? Hang onto God and He will make you as bold as a lion. See Prov.28:1

S.F. SEALS

Oh, what a sight!! Two thousand seals docked together on platforms in the bay at Pier 39.

We were there a few days ago. I knew the seals were in town. I could smell them long before we could even see them.

You have no idea what 2000 seals smell like.

Imagine hot steamy bodies and rotten garbage together. Combine the smell of animal sweat on a hot day with tons of garbage and animal gas and then you have a small idea!

What were all these blubbery things doing? NOTHING! Just laying in the hot sun. Thier bodies were packed together and they were just taking up space nose to nose and flipper to flipper.

Idle seals are amazing to look at. You would almost guess they were sick or dead. They smelled like they were dead except for the grunts and groans.

Somehow I imagined this could possibly be a picture of Christians. You know---- Lazy---Taking up space, Doing nothing at all---grunting and complaining about everything.

Sometimes we can smell pretty bad too, especially about grumbling and criticising others. Do you suppose God ever has to hold His nose because we stink to high heaven?

Lord, Help me to never become a lazy, smelly complaing, stinker.

I'VE ORDERED HEARING AIDS!

Yes - no one wants to admit it but they say confession is good for the soul.

So the next time you see me I may be connected in both ears.

Pam accuses me of selective hearing - well not anymore!

My sweet soft high voice friends - can't get away with it anymore. I will hear every word they say.

My hearing specialist is tuning me in so I can hear a "pin drop".

Yes, even in the car with road noise off the rough pavement, I will hear every word, even from the back seat.

Hearing has its special blessings. I won't have to say "Huh? Can you repeat that again?"

But there are disadvantages too. Commercials, complaining friends, snoring dogs, and telephone salesmen. (I can't say, "sorry I can't hear you - click")

People of all ages often need hearing aids. Sometimes even children and teens. Definitely rock musicians and seniors too.

But there is one person who never needs hearing aids.

GOD!

He hears us before we speak, before we pray, before we even form the words in our brain.

Psalm 139:4, 7 "Before a word is on my tongue, you know it completely O Lord. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?"

No hiding secrets from God. No obscure thoughts from Him and nothing in the closet with God.

"Search me O God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts" vs. 23

The Bible also says "Before you speak I will answer".

OLD FRIENDS

On our most recent vacation our whole family was together in Kauai. The islands are about 2600 miles out to sea from the mainland.

On the way over, I said to Pam, "I wonder if we will meet anyone we know". Pam responded, "Well not many people go to the north end of the island, so I doubt it."

On one of our day trips while standing in line for food, guess what? Yes, old friends, probably 10 years removed from our last visit with them. It was a fun and exciting surprise to catch up and see their kids now grown up.

But even more! Our daughter and husband also met old friends from Chico.

Plus, add this! Our son and wife in addition, met old friends from Nevada City.
Three reunions 2600 miles out to sea. It is wonderful to meet old friends.

I can hardly wait to meet old friends some day in heaven. We will have a great surprise with plenty of time (eternity) to catch up with all the news with many old friends.

Pam and I have lived in many places and served quite a few churches. What a joy meeting them all again.

Of course no one can compare to the greatest Friend! He is at the top of the list and head of the line.

I hope you are excited about the greatest reunion in the sky. It will be a great reception that will never end.

FAITH

At least 36 people turned in Faith Commitment Cards last Sunday.

Remember the incident? Jesus was in his hometown of Nazareth and "couldn't do miracles because of their lack of faith".

It made me ask myself "how many times has Jesus passed over me because of my lack of faith"?

It is obvious that "doubt destroys faith" but the opposite is also true "FAITH DESTROYS DOUBT".

When I drive my car I express faith in the other drivers. I have faith that they will stay on their side of the highway and faith that they will obey the traffic signals.

God is so much more dependable than any highway driver. I will determine today to express my faith in my faithful God.

I hope you will join me and at least 36 others who chose faith this week instead of doubt.

MY PRIUS BROKE DOWN

I thought those 50 mpg machines never wore out. Well, nothing is perfect and one day last week it died.

Pam and I were in Stockton and the car wouldn't start. It had strange symptoms, like flashing lights on the dashboard and a warning sign on the GPS that stated press the parking brake.

So I did what every Senior Pastor does when they need help. I called on my associate and Youth Pastor Mark. "Can you come and give me a jump start on this dead car?"

Mark and Sasha showed up in 15 minutes, but even Mark couldn't get the fancy computer driven hybrid to awaken from its death sleep.

So I called "tow truck ambulance service" to take her to the ER in hopes that the car doctor could cure the automotive malady.

Pam and I offered our prayers for healing with the fear that financial charges would be worse than funeral service. In my fears I imagined a $2000.00 hybrid extensive battery plus about the same for labor charges. Oh no, Lord, not "killer charges".

The car doctor received this sick patient about 3 p.m. and I prayed. Lord this car belongs to You and our money belongs to You, if You want Your money spent on Your car it's up to You.

At 5 p.m the car doctor called "The patient is ready to go home now. She is all well. It wasn't the big expensive battery but only the little tiny battery that had died."

Well, thank you Lord, You answered another really big prayer and this time so quickly!

So the cost was only a fraction of what I had feared. Oh what a relief!

Slowly I am learning to trust first instead of fear first. I hope you are also.

RENEWAL

What do you do to get renewed?

Renewal comes in many forms but it is best when renewal comes from God.

Elijah ran away when he was burned out. He was ready to throw in the towel but God met him on the mountainside and spoke to him in a "still small voice". It was a quiet renewal but all very powerful.

I get renewed by getting away with God. Small renewals come to me on a regular basis when I jog three times a week and talk to God. Sometimes it is more like listening to God. Often I come home with fresh ideas and inspiration just after 30 minutes of exercise along the streets or the water canal.

Jesus renewed Himself from the stress of pressure, people, miracles, conflicts and attacks. He got up early in the morning to commune alone with His heavenly Father.

Make time and take time for renewal. Everyone needs to slow down and take a break. Pam and I will be taking a break July 14-22. It is a family reunion with all 13 members coming together. This includes our three children and spouses and all five grandkids plus a new little girl, Siena, who will be born in November. We are looking forward to a great reunion with family and God.

I hope you make time this summer to also get renewed with the Lord and all your family members.

FRAGRANCE

Recently I was jogging down Lower Sac. Rd and at the corner of Vine St. I came to the strawberry field.

What a wonderfull fragrance!

It was so strong I just wanted to stop and pick a few berries of my own. I could smell them a mile away (as the saying goes).

Starbucks. OK, now you know I love going into that decadent place. Just let me smell the deep rich wonderful aroma of the coffee bean. It is revitalizing, Wow!

Everything has an aroma!

Remember the H.S. locker room?...in the spring...on a hot day...with no air conditioning...? I can still smell the dirty gym clothes inside my locker. And why not?... They were seldom washed.

Alongside our walkway at home going into our house is a row on both sides of "angel face" roses. Now there is a beautiful aroma of angelic proportions. They uplift me everytime I pass.

However, things are a little different as we drive along Armstrong Rd. You know going passed the dairy. WHOA! now that fragrance is a smell you won't forget. It gets stuck in my nostrils and won't quit.

Everything and everyone has an aroma, fragrance or odor.

What do you smell like? Fragrance or Odor?

The Bible says Jesus was a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (EPH.5:2) His sacrificial love and selflessness was beautiful. His fragrant example of dedication, service, commitment and grace was so sweet and desirable.

Ap. Paul wrote "be imitators of God".

Lord help me to smell like Jesus to other people. I want to be an angel face rose and not an animal on Armstrong Rd.

"REAL LIFE PERSPECTIVE"

Our plane was diverted from Wash. D.C. to Harrisburg Pa..

The pilot said he had instrument landing problems. The D.C. airport had low lying clouds that required the use of electronic landing instruments to get us safely to the ground. Since he couldn't see the runway he needed to dirvert to Harrisburg which had a clear landing site.

Of course no one objected but our flight was greatly delayed until finally the problem could be rectified.

When we finally returned later that evening to the D.C. airport we were grateful the Sacramento flight did not go without us. By no means! It too was delayed. Yes really delayed. Hour after hour we waited and waited.

Two and one half hours later we finally boarded for home.

We had a very long day. It began about 6 A.M. that morning and we ultimately pulled into our own driveway at 5:30 A.M. (EST).

Yes we were tired but there was little or no grumbling from us. God put the long journey into "real life perspective". This is the reason.

My sister-in-law in South Carolina is under going chemotherapy for a life threatening cancer. We hurt for her and her family deeply.

Also when we arrived my bro-in-law was in trouble on the river. He had a near death (fear death) experience. We are very thankful for his safety after 10 hours on the river.

In addition to all that drama, we learned of the Air France tragedy off the coast of Brazil. What a shock that was to everyone.

Pam and I today thank God for safe travel even if it was delayed. We also thank God for good health and strong bodies which God has given to us.

Today we have a "real life perspective" and are very grateful.

DIVE BOMBERS

Yes, I have them! Several of them in my back yard. You can watch them everyday. Large black birds dive bomb a hawk in a big pine tree high in the air.

The hawk is twice the size of the large birds but, they don't care. the hawk has a huge wing span and sits on the branch near her nest guarding it.

This daily occurance is quite a site. The birds are excellent aerial acrobats diving straight down, curving in the wind, squawking and barely scraping past the head of this awesome hawk.

I've noticed the hawk bravely endures every attack until the birds tire of their game and leave. She doesn't fight back but justs sits fiercely and fearlessly in control.

"Patient endurance is what you need now so that you will continue to do God's will. Then you will receive all that He has promised." Heb. 10:35 NLT

Sometimes the hardest part of the battle is patient endurance while the attacks come raging on to us.

So who is dive bombing you?

Your enemy cannot penetrate your Christian armor.

God's protection is a great refuge in trouble. Remember Ps. 46:1?

So let the dive bombers have their fun and rest in His great promises.

BELIEVE

Here is a great quote from Dr. Del Tackett !

"Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?"

It is not what I say but what I obey that shows what I really believe.

Do I Believe: Heaven is real but so is Hell?

If so then I will prepare for heaven and live to please the God of heaven while avoid pleasing the god of hell.

"Dear God, help my life to reflect my genuine belief in the rewards of heaven and the judgments of hell."

Do I really believe: that without faith it is impossible to please God?

This is a most basic premise in the Bible. I must live like I believe it!!!

"Dear God, help me to look at daily activities, events, problems and surprises as an act of faith. I want to approach everything by applying faith. I believe in living by faith so help me to do so each moment of the day".

We can all take a great stride of maturity by really believing what we claim to believe.

HALITOSIS

Our dog has bad breath. Sometimes it's OK but other times it is NOT!

When we leave him alone in the laundry room for a few hours and then come home and open the door the "fragrance" is overwhelming. His breath does not please his master.

Sometimes people have halitosis too! What I mean is their spiritual life really "STINKS". To look at them and watch them everything is fine. But... when they open their mouth what comes out really stinks.

Beautiful people can spoil their looks by what they say.

Talented people can contaminate their charactor by unhealthy words.

Christian people can destroy their testimony because of "spiritual halitosis".

Now we have an appointment with our veteranarian for an important dental clean up so our dog will be acceptable in our house and before his master.

I guess the great lesson is ... do we have a clean mouth that is acceptable before our Master?

SEA GULLS

They are smart. They know how to eat well. They go after people food.

Pam and I spent a getaway weekend in Pacific Grove. While we were having breakfast at the poolside cafe, sea gulls came up to our bay window to show off and beg for food.

These two beautiful birds were immaculately dressed in their white and gray outfits.
Strutting up and down in front of us they captured our attention.

At first they began posturing, then squawking very very loudly, and next they even pecked on the window glass. Oh yes, one of them even pooped in front of us!

I think it was a learned behavior in order to get a plate of food or at least blueberry muffins from vacationers who were duly entertained by these extrovert "birdbrains".

Now we didn't feed the birds, but the Bible says God does. Matthew 6:26 NLT "Look at the birds. They don't need to plant or harvest or put food into barns because your heavenly Father feeds them."

Jesus point about the birds? "You are far more valuable to Him than birds are." Don't worry about the necessities of life. When you trust Him He will give you all you need.

When we went to the coast, Pam and I needed rest, time alone together, and time to enjoy nature again. We also needed a lesson from the sea gulls.

Perhaps Jesus message is also helpful to you. Matthew 6:33 NLT "And He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern."

AFTER EASTER

It's over. Easter is past. The celebration is history.

Hopefully you were together with family, friends and neighbors. You had the traditional egg hunt and also talked about the real meaning of Easter.

At church there was the wonderful Resurrection music, great drama, soloists of special blessing and a terrific Easter meal filled with many delicious potluck dishes.

Now it is over.

Just like in Jesus day, what happened? Things went back to normal, the routine, the usual order of the day. Even Peter said "I'm going fishing" and others thought "I'll never see Jesus again". Are things back to "normal again"?

I hope your life is not normal any more! BECAUSE.....

The RESURRECTION means His power is your power.
His new life is your new life
His victory is your victory.

Nothing should be normal again. If God is for us who or what can stand against us?
No one No thing Nothing.
He wants us to live the resurrection power He gives to His people everyday.

He is Risen and He is risen Indeed. You can live out His power now.

IT'S FRIDAY BUT....

SUNDAY IS COMING. This well known saying is powerful.

Friday represents the Good Friday ( strange name for Jesus crucifixion )

Good for us. Jesus paid for all our sins!

Bad for Him. He suffered and died, was abandoned by the Father and was mocked by the enemies.

Friday represents our bad days too. The bad news, the sick kids, the angry boss, the rotten attitudes, the frustrations everywhere.

So when I'm stressed I project ahead to Sunday. It's Friday but Sunday is coming!!!

Easter Sunday...Resurrection Sunday...New Beginning Sunday!

Sunday is our promise of victory and answered prayer and positive new fresh start.

Today if you feel like Friday-- just remember-- Sunday is not far away. Look ahead to Resurrection Sunday.

Jesus has a great new start for you. It is his promise of victory.

BACK TO PRISON

Last week we were turned away because of over crowding. This week we were admitted.

We made it through the check in line and the metal detector, also the black light stamp on the wrist and finally through all the locked gates and doors into the waiting room.

It was packed with visitors and inmates. People of all ages were visiting. We saw grandparents and small children, also people of all races and backgrounds. The room was so packed full we waited to find a place to sit. Everyone had to sit at a table with the chairs facing the tables.

Visitors were allowed to have a hug at the begining and ending of the visit. Wives could also hold hands with husbands but nothing more.

It was noisy in this room with lots chatter, smiles, intense conversation and hopeful glances. But everyone knew the terrible truth, the men in blue will not be going home. Not tonight and some never!

Pam and I left feeling humble and grateful to be free. We had freedom. We ate out that night (Costco, but so what it was freedom).

We left behind a prison of 2000 men who knew and lived with misery, anger, and evil everyday of their lives. The iron doors and razor wire fences kept the hatred inside.

Thank God for freedom. Thank God for eternal and spiritual freedom.

PRISON

I went to prison recently but I couldn't get in. Prisoners can't get out and visitors can't get in. FRUSTRATION !

Pam and I waited over two hours. We signed up and took a number and waited. Visitors were called in ten people at a time. We were numbers 167 &168. Processing closed at 3:30 PM. We were the last group at the deadline but, the deadline was too late! If we could wait another two hours we could see our friend at 5:30 PM.

So our friend in prison was FRUSTRATED and we were FRUSTRATED too.

What do you do when FRUSTRATED? at work? at home? or with your own mistakes?

Don't Repress it-----It only builds up to depression and anger.

Don't Express it-----By taking it out on others and making them miserable.

Do Confess it-----tell God about your disappointment, resentment etc.

let go-----give it to God-----get over it-----accept it-----confess it

"forget the past and move forward to your goal of pleasing God.

Next week we will try again to visit our friend. At least we could go home to a nice house but, our friend will be in his cell another 15 years.

HERE FOR A REASON

Occasionally someone gives me a wakeup call. "Thanks for what you said, I needed that". or "Thanks that really opened my eyes".

We have all had those AH HA moments in life.

They are reminders. We are here for a purpose and God has put people in our lives for a reason.

"You shall be my witnesses" Acts 1:8

When we connect with those words "my witnesses" then something special begins to happen. We get to join God in what He is doing. We get to partner with Him in the lives of others.

Remember the saying: "you are the only Bible some people will ever read and you are the only Jesus some people will ever see".

What a privilege to fulfill my purpose and be Jesus in the life of another person.

Would you join me in looking for ways to reach out, love, connect, and communicate His Good News to someone looking for encouragement.

VISA DENIED

No one likes to hear those words.

Recently our friends from Ukraine applied for visas to come visit the USA and especially Lodi.

Pastor Sasha and Natasha were denied visas. No reason given, no explanation offered, just the words DENIED.

Pam and I have been to their country several times. Our team from Cornerstone has gone to love and reach out to them over the years.

This time we sponsored them to come here and meet our church family and speak in several churches in California.

What a shock "DENIED"

Life is full of surprizes.

Maybe you are facing some now!

Let me show you what Prov. 18:9 says.

"In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps"

OK God! You are in control! Your ways are BIGGER, HIGHER, STRONGER, WISER, and I will accept your steps for me.

Join me in praying for our friends who got rejected. Just as they must accept the no answer from God we learn from them.

Believe that the Lord has a bigger plan and more wiser way when you get denied. It can be tough but the results are really worth it.

As the saying goes "let go and let God have his perfect way"

HANAKAPIAI FALLS

Roundtrip it is 8 miles of jungle and rain forest. You must cross the river 5 times before you get to the falls.

It is a steep exhilerating hike through bamboo forests 40 feet high, coffee bean trees, beautiful palms, and wild jungle flowers.

It was one of the most fantastic thrilling hikes I have ever experienced.

We saw enormous waves slamming against the cliffs of a hidden beach on our way to a waterfall 410 feet high.

It was an 8 hour hike that required strong legs, plenty of stamina, sturdy shoes, an energy packed lunch and patient endurance.

On our way down from one of the most beautiful falls in the world we told climbers still on the way up, "don't stop now", "it is worth it", "it is so beautiful", "you're almost there".

What a great visual lesson.

At times serving God can be very hard and strenuous. It is a difficult climb, but the final results are "worth it all". Don't give up, God's rewards are worth the hike.

If you are now on an uphill climb--- practice patient endurance. The reward is so beautiful and worth every effort required to achieve the goal. You won't be sorry.

P.S. Don't make the hike alone. Take a traveling companion. May I offer you JESUS?

I MET HER

I met the GOLD MEDAL GIRL Stephanie Brown Trafton. She spoke at our church as planned.

I hope you were there and met her too.

Stephanie is a wonderful teacher. Without even knowing it she taught us all many things about the Christian life.

We first saw her humble spirit. So many great athletes are bragadocious and pompous.Stephanie was just the opposite. Confident but very humble.

We also saw her intense self discipline. Do you know anyone who trains 4 hours per day? No wonder she won the GOLD.

Stephanie also showed her transparent and open personality. She let us see the good and not so good in her past life. She had nothing to hide and confessed her weaknesses. I don't know too many great and famous people willing to be that vulnerable.

We also saw her bold love and obedience to the Lord. In China she started a Bible study group for the Olympians and had a great response.

It was so refreshing to see a famous young athlete who wasn't shy about her faith and love for God.

I learned a lot from her coming to Cornerstone. I hope you did too.

You can see her pictures we took at the outreach on the 25th of Jan. Go to our home page. Just click on the Media panel then go to Photos. These are Awesome!

By the way her own web page is www.StephanieBrownTrafton.com Please check it out.

NEW YEAR SPECIAL

God's promise for a great New Year!

Isa. 25:1 "O Lord you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done marvelous things, things planned long ago.

In 2009 you can count on 1. HIS FAITHFULNESS

2. HIS MARVELOUS DEEDS

3. HIS GREAT ETERNAL PLAN

In response He wants to count on your 1. DEVOTION TO HIS LORDSHIP

2. WORSHIP AND PRAISE

So when I begin 2009 with Devotion - Worship - Praise - Then He becomes My FAITHFUL God for this coming year.

I may not know anything about the next 12 months except that-

GOD WILL NEVER LET ME DOWN.

O.K. Now I am ready for whatever comes the next 365 days ahead.

Nothing is better than the faithfulness of a LOVING AND CARING GOD.

I know you agree with that so let's have a really terrific New Year.

SAN FRANCISCO VISIT

We went to S.F. with friends recently. It is always an experience to be in San Francisco.

The day was filled with sunshine, rain, hail, cold wind and good food at the Cheese Factory

All the lights, decorations, giant Christmas trees were so magnanimous and the white chocolate carmel cheesecake was terrific.

But most interesting of course were all the people of that great city: man on the train sorting through his two big suitcases, high society people who shop at Neiman Marcus, low society people who beg on the streets, security guard at exclusive jewelry store, and of great entertainment, the woman illegally parked whose car was on the rack just seconds from being towed away. Suddenly she appeared and the policeman graciously gave her a gift and let her keep her car [surprise].

People at Christmas? Who really cares? Just a wild mix of strange people. Does anyone really care about the multitudes they don't even know?

"For God so loved the world of people". God loves all these strange assortment of people.

Big and little cities are packed with weird, strange, lonely, rich and poor people.

From the cradle to the cross God loved people. The Christ of Christmas came to love people.

God knows and cares about each and everyone of them singularly and by name. What an AMAZING God we have. All and each one are important to Him.

When I walk the streets of San Francisco I am in shock that anyone could love so many people at the same time and know them all as eternal souls that are important to God.

I wish that I could love people that way.

CELL PHONE LOST

It is such a weird feeling. When I first noticed it was missing I felt so isolated.

"Now I'm cut off from the outside world, what will I ever do now? How can I possibly survive? No one knows where I am and how can they reach me? What if something really bad happens and I cannot speak to anyone?"

I think you know the feeling!

Of course my little brief encounter of being out of the loop was short lived.

I found the phone at home that night on the couch where it slipped out of my pocket.

But this incident reminded me of so many people who are isolated from God and friends. I thought of all kinds of people who are lonely and out of touch with ones they love and those who love them.

Separtation is a huge problem.

Christmas is not a good time of year for many. The loneliness and isolation is accentuated by the holidays.

Perhaps God wants to use you to make a difference this Christmas. You can be Jesus to someone who needs Him and is out of touch with God.

QUICK CHANGE

Life is a quick change artist. No one really knows when to expect change.

Pam and I were recently in Monterey. It was a beautiful weekend. It was really warm and sunny with blue skies and enormous waves. The sunsets were especially memorable.

There must have been a storm in the Pacific off in the great distance because the giant waves were dancing in the crisp sunlight and skipping at night when the sun was setting.

Soon it was time to return home and as we crossed the Pacheco Pass the weather instantly changed. We dropped down in the valley and immediately submerged in the dense thick pea soup fog.

It was a shocking dramatic change. Just like life!!

All of God's people of the Bible had to face and accept change. Life is full of change. Sometimes very swift and difficult.

It is often said, "the only thing constant is change"

So what is the answer? Take a look at James 1:17 "He never changes"

The weather changes, people change, the economy will certainly change but God is always the SAME.

God will never leave you. Go with God and you will be able to cope no matter what may change. our God is the immutable consistant unchanging Father.

His love for you is unchanging. His faithfulness for you is unchanging and you can handle any change when you go with God.

THANKSGIVING LIST

Bad economic times are scary.

It is easy to begin thinking what if I lose my job? what if I lose my healthcare? what if I can't pay the rent?

But listen to this great verse from the Ap. Paul. He was the ultimate optimist. No matter what happened to him he always came up positive.

"No matter what happens always be thankful for this is the will of God for you today in Christ Jesus" 1Thes. 5:18

So now we can turn Thanksgiving into THANKSLIVING. Remember to apply this verse "no matter what"

Now you can start to compile your thankful list.

Dear Lord thank you for your power to overcome everything no matter how bad, evil, frightening, expensive,or even how deep the recession might become.

Thank you for the victory you promised.

"Thanks be unto God who always gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ"

Happy Thanksgiving.

HOLIDAYS ALMOST HERE

NO BITTER ROOT

So many are always angry. Nothing is ever right. They are so upset at work and home. Someone has hurt them, offended them, cheated them or insulted them.

"See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many" Heb. 12:15

Notice "grace" it is His love and forgiveness. When I have it I can then give it to others.

If I miss this wonderful gift of grace the result is something terrible growing in my life. It is the "root of bitterness" There is in reality one of two choices. Either receive the gift of grace with joy and blessing or deal with the root of bitterness and the results of anger and etc.

Look at the painful truth "A BITTER ROOT GROWS BITTER FRUIT".

Which do you choose? I will choose the gift of grace with its love and forgiveness. I have learned that no one likes to eat my BITTER FRUIT.

GRUMBLINGS

Do all things without grumbling or complaining Phil. 2:14

What an easy sin to fall into!!!

WOW - before we know it everything is wrong and nothing is right.

When we compare ourselves to others we always compare "up" and very seldom "down".

Why can't I have more _____________ fill in the blank. Like my rich friend or lucky cousin or beautiful neighbor?

We recently came back from our Baja mission trip. Once again we had our eyes opened to real poverty. We saw life on the raw edge with the Meztec Indians.

These dear people lived in the dirt with no running water, electricity or even a decent outhouse. They cooked over open fires with black plastic siding for houses. They had no education or schools to attend. They were migrants and moved frequently.

So I began to think about "grumbling and complaining".

If I didn't like my house I could go live in their plastic tent.
If I didn't like my health I could go live in the dust 24/7 hours a day.
If I didn't like my water I could drink their "ecoli" infested water.
If I didn't like my job I could go work in the fields for $8.00 per day.

Dear Lord help me to never complain again. Amen

ADVENTURES

Our recent trip to Baja was awesome.

We visited the Mixtec Indians on two occasions. Their village was miles from the main road up in the hills of the farming area.

These people are the poorest of the poor. They live on a hillside with black plastic walls for houses. The wind shredded plastic wrap is old and full of holes. It is wrapped around irrigation pipes to form a semblance of four walls to make a tent like structure they call a house.

In the several years that Cornerstone has been going to Baja these conditions are the very worst we have ever seen.

These poor people have no education, very few belongings, live in filth and dirt floors. They have no running water or electricity. They cook over open fires and use candles at night.

Our Mission team brought them food, clothing, toys, and God's love. We also took photos of their families and presented them with the pictures on our following visit.

It was our most touching and emotional experience. Each time we came we could hardly believe people really lived in that primitive squaller. Jesus talked about loving the least of these my brothers. We saw the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked.

Thank God our team of eighteen short term missionaries had the privilege of loving feeding and clothing them. It was a very humbling experience.

PARKING TICKET

YES, I was only a very very few minutes late!!!!! Pam and I were returning from a lengthly appointment in Stockton. The officer must have been lying in wait for me the victim.

I should have known better! Why was I so stupid!?? I like living on the edge but I was really pushing it! What was I thinking ------- I parked our car on the same street as the STOCKTON POLICE DEPARTMENT for goodness sakes alive !!!!!!!! DUH! UGGH!

So Monday afternoon I was feeling sorry for myself, and guilty, and stupid, and mistreated.

Guess what my sermon was on the previous day? "Expect the Unexpected" Yep. It seems I always get to experience my own words [eat my words].

What I needed was an attitude adjustment. Well it soon came when I put my $25. problem in perspective.

I have friends with no work, friends in the hospital, friends with aging problems, friends with marriage struggles, and friends who are lonely and afraid.

LETTER IN THE MAIL

Bad News- Pam and I received bad news from our mortgage lender. We are victims of identity theft.

Oh No!!! I'm going to lose our house, and retirement fund. The thieves will destroy my credit and reputation and everything.

Our first reaction to bad news is always fear, anger or rebellion if not worse. "That's not fair" "I've been a good Christian". "I read the Bible!"

I thought the Bible says "God never sleeps". Well I guess he was watching TV or text messaging someone when my problems hit.

But wait a minute. I'm a pastor. I've got some answers somewhere. I need to apply God's Word and Prayer and Faith.

I'd better get into action and read Ps. 112:7 "He will have no fear of bad news, his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord".

O.K. calm down! I will TRUST. I will be STEADY and HOLD firmly the LORD. I will choose not to FEAR.

Sure enough!! Guess what? It all came out in the local news. The culprit has been apprehended and it appears that none of the 1000's of victims (not just Ron and Pam) have not been robbed after all.

THANK YOU LORD. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! YOU ARE SO GREAT!

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Don't Ask Why?

We always get into trouble with that question, WHY?

Life is unfair. WHY? Good people suffer. WHY? Bad people prosper. WHY? I never get it my way. WHY?

Why always leaves people angry. We pout and blame and complain. It causes us to be cynical. Soon we are mad at God because He didn't fix my problem when I asked Him to do it my way.

The WHY question has no answer. Ask God and He is silent. God's special business is not ours. WHY is in the secret world of the MOST HIGH SOVEREIGN LORD OF THE UNIVERSE. The Bible says that "the secret things belong to the Lord our God"

So I know what you are thinking. WHY are they secret? WHY can't He tell ME? !!!!!

Our question for life is not WHY but WHAT?

In view of this .....situation....problem...loss...hurt...burden. WHAT action should I take?

Now that has substance!! I can act in faith. I can act in patience. I can act in gratitude. I can act in love.

So .....WHAT should I learn? What should I believe? What should I do in Faith?

Next time you want to ask God a question, change it to WHAT?

Dear Lord what should my response be? WWJD?

ACTS OF KINDNESS

What would Jesus do? His whole like was acts of kindness.

Look at people . They have four basic needs. They are Physical, Emotional , Directional, and Spiritual.

Jesus focused on these four basic areas. He is our model on reaching out to others.

We can practice many acts of kindness in these four ways in loving people around us.

1. Look for people who have physical needs and be Jesus to them. "cup of cold water"

2. Look for people who have emotional needs and be Jesus to them. Show them Jesus love.

3. Look for people who have directional needs and be Jesus to them. Be the light in a dark path

4. Look for people who have spiritual needs and be Jesus to them. Jesus said "I am the way"

People are the most important of all God's creation. He wants us to love and serve them with kindness and gentleness. You can be Jesus to them today.

INTERFERENCE

Watch out for all kinds of interferences which hurt your life.

On the Cell Phone it is the dead zone. On the highway it is rush hour traffic(why do they call it rush-hour?) On your computer it is "spam". But...... with God it is temptations, distractions, people, materialism, deceptions from the "angel of light" and so many other things.

Elymus(the sorcerer) tried to interfere with Paul and the gospel on the Island of Cypress. The sorcerer was trying to keep the governor from believing and following Jesus.

Paul recognized the conflict and rebuked him while God took care of the problem and struck him blind.

What a powerful illustration! What is your distraction? Recognize the problem and turn it over to the Lord. Refuse to let it hinder you from your calling. Get on with the Lord's work. Read Acts 13:4-12

Let's stay on course together.

LIFE IN SOUTH CAROLINA

I'm writing this note to you while on vacation. Pam and I are having a great time. Edisto Island is called Low Country because it is so low in elevation like zero feet above sea level in many places.

This low country is amazing. I love seeing the dolphins cruising by so early in the morning.

It is fantastic counting pelicans winging over our beach house. They are beautiful and graceful flying in a long string one behind the other. We counted 82 large birds peering down at us on the deck about 20 feet overhead.

Also on the island are Loggerhead turtles. So far they remain unseen but we often spot the nesting areas of these endangered species.

The almost full moon over the ocean at night is another evidence of God's terrific imprint on planet earth.

We love the ocean including the windy cloudy and rainy days. At this moment we are having a very loud thunder and lightening storm. We love to experience the South with its unique foods like fried green tomatoes and she crab soup. We love the special southern culture and y'all come hospitality.

But the reason we came so far was family. People are the most important! They are the most fun of all! Our family is so beautiful inside and outside. Thank God each one of them has a great and personal relationship with God. Vacation is great, but love of God and family is the greatest.
I hope you personally know what I mean.

By the way the Cornerstone family in Lodi is also incredibly beautiful and exceptionally loving.

I look forward to seeing them all very soon.

CUTEST THING IN THE WORLD

Yes, I'm a grandparent! And I'm talking about our little 9 month old, Caleb.

I know every parent says mine is the cutest. But with us it is really true!

When we were baby sitting him recently we actually saw him:

1. Pull himself up to stand.

2. Wave hello to us.

3. Take naps by himself.

4. Imitate me when I hit the table with my hand.

This boy is Awesome!

So you must admit it. We win! He is the cutest!

But you and I know also that something begins to change.

Somewhere in those cute years our perfect little ones learn to say "NO". Then they refuse to cooperate! And they won't sleep when we want them to. Before long that perfect little mind is acting out in unpleasant ways.

Life is so unfair...our perfect little people disappoint us...things happen. Nothing ever remains the same. And now look at the adult world... so rebellious.

Only God is perfect! So I'll love my kids and grand kids but keep my eyes on God.

He is always kind, dependable and faithful. I will stay focused on Him. He will never fail or disappoint me. But....our little Caleb is still the cutest thing in the world.

CHEEZ-ITS

And shaving cream. It was hilarious.... at Camp Cornerstone.

We had our annual all church event recently. What a blast! So many funny games.

Two young men volunteered to be the shaving cream faces. They bravely put on goggles and had their faces sprayed with shaving cream.

Next, team members threw cheez-its at their faces trying to land as many morsels as possible in their shaving cream.

It was so much fun. You cannot imagine!... Bright yellow cheez-its covering a fluffy snow white face. The contrast was a prize winning picture. "Cheez-its Heads"

Parents were laughing. Kids were yelling. Team members were trying to score the highest number of points with the most cheez-its in place on the face.

Sometimes I get cheez-its all over my face. But...they are not funny!

Unkind words are cheez-its and boy do they standout.

A critical spirit exposes my motives and boy everyone can easily see my cheez-its.

Anger, judgment, impatience also breakout all over my face and no one thinks they are funny.

Do you ever get plastered with your own cheez-its?

SEE THE BEAUTY

Recently our family visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was awesome. We saw every kind of fish imaginable. We were overwhelmed by the grace and beauty of these fantastic undersea creatures.

I remember my first experience of snorkeling in Maui. I realized God created a totally hidden world of underwater life that most people never get to see.

There are under water mountains, caves, seaweed forests, and life forms. These unseen miracles are so exquisite and awesome in their elegance that the setting is beyond description.

Most human eyes never have a chance to even peek into the underwater wonder of the sea world.

God's miracles in the spiritual world of faith are just as amazing and beautiful. This is what I mean:

Do you look for God's beautiful answers to prayer?

Do you notice His wonderful mercies of kindness?

Have you experienced His overwhelming protection from danger?

Did you see how His perfect blessings of forgiveness has set you free?

Are you feeling and discovering His gracious encounter with powerful love?

It is totally amazing what can be seen in God's spiritual world all around His people.

So... what should I do?

Submerge yourself in His Word

Dive into the aquarium of His grace.

Let God immerse you in His love.

Hold your breath and look for the sea flowers of His compassion, patience and gentleness.

Now open your eyes to the wonder of His eternal affection for you.

WEEDS

The weeds I hate are the large broad leaf variety. They are maddening. They grow faster than the real grass. They push out the beautiful lawn we all like to admire.

Recently I started digging out the ugly killer weeds from my lawn.

The roots are tough fibrous hard bulbs with long tentacles stretching out looking for more underground territory to claim.

The more I dug, the more I realized that I was destroying what used to be so beautiful. It left large gapping holes deep into the bare ground with lots of black soil totally exposed. The holes made everything look worse than before.

My next attempt to rid my yard of this unwanted enemy was "weed and feed". That didn't work either. It seemed like I was feeding the weeds. They really liked those pretty little pellets. I looked this morning and the weeds were stronger than ever.

If the weed potion doesn't work then I don't know what I will do next.

The"weeds of life" are so similar. Chronic, Persistent, Resistant, and Dominant. They never go away. They crop up when least wanted.

The weeds choke out the good seeds and smother the tender plants of love and patience. These ugly overpowering monsters have large deep roots of destruction and suck the life out of all that's good.

The battle with weeds in the yard or in the life never ends.

Paul wrote "put to death the sinful earthly things lurking within you... now is the time to get rid of [the weeds} of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, dirty language" and all the other weeds too.

Cut them off before they get too big and take over your life.

Get them sooner before they get you later.

I need some spiritual weed killer to eradicate the many weeds of life growing up within me. I wonder what Lowe's might have on sale?

I look forward to heaven where no weeds will ever grow in our perfect bodies.

LAPEL MIKE

It is that little gadget I use for public address when I preach.

Well, it disappeared. It costs about 500.00 to own a really good one and this was excellent.

No one could find it. It was not in the sound box or the equipment box. Someone said it might be in the children's box, but no!! People looked high and low and even sideways. We even checked with the custodian to see if it had been given to lost and found.

But after much prayer, puzzlement, and head scratching it was found.

I found it myself. I couldn't believe it there it was. I was cleaning out the back seat of my car this week and there on the floor I found it. It was just staring me in the face.

Don't ask me how it got there because I don't know. It is a total mystery.

But now I have a rather large problem.

Last Sunday I publicly announced that our Worship Leader had lost our expensive micrphone [he was the one who used it last].

To make things worse my sermon that day was on not criticizing other people. Point #1. Stop Criticizing Others.

Oh boy - now I must eat my words and swallow humble pie or is it pride.

"Please Forgive Me I Was Wrong".

For some reason these are still the six most difficult words in the English language.

OUR AIR CONDITIONER

You guessed it. It broke down. Yes when we had our heat wave!

Now everybody knows from all the advertising in the mail. They cost 5, 6, 7000.00 dollars to replace.

Well our special cute little unit is over 30 years old, maybe even 40 years. I don't think that the repairman was even born yet.

So Pam and I decided to wait a little while before taking the financial dive into the pool of poverty, just so we could have it down to 85 degrees instead of the blistering 99+ predicted.

But it gets a little redundant telling everyone who comes to visit why it is so extra warm in the house. So we decided to go ahead and take the dive.

But first comes prayer. "Oh Lord you know how hot our house really is.Could you possible help us out with a small repair bill instead of the tsunami just waiting to take over our life?"

Now don't be surprised! God answered that prayer. It was a great answer. Instead of paying the expected five or six grand it was less than 100 dollars.

We were extra delighted. Oh my goodness. God once again came through just when things are expected to heat up again!

So now I am asking myself this question. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO PRAY.

Look at all the blood, sweat and more sweat We could have avoided.

I think there must be some kind of a spiritual lesson in here somewhere?

RHODA

She was so excited she forgot to answer the door. He came to tell his friends what had happened.

But before they had finished praying God had already answered.

You know the Biblical account. Herod threw Peter in prison and was going to kill him.

The believers were afraid for Peter's safety and prayed diligently.

God heard the prayers and sent angels who released Peter's chains and opened the doors of the iron prison and set him free.

Peter came knocking on the door of those who were praying.

When Rhoda heard Peter's voice she was so excited that she ran back into the prayer meeting. Peter was left standing outside.

However no one believed her. God's miracle was so big, so great, so fast, that the answer was a done deal!

Just remember "WHEN YOU PRAY THE ANSWER IS ON THE WAY"

Next time don't forget to open the door!!

CRIPPLED BEGGAR

The beggar wanted money. Just a quick fix! Give me a few coins so I can eat today. I can't work but I can beg. I don't plan ahead. I only think one day at a time. All I want is money.

Peter had no money but he did have Faith and Love to share with the down and out man. Peter offered much more than simply money. He gave him a brand new life through healing.

"I don't have any silver or gold but I'll give you what I have".

You can be like Peter to many people around you. Give what you have. Here are just a few of your possessions.

Plan to give away your love, hope, joy, peace, time, talents, gifts, compassion, tenderness, wisdom, and your special friendship with God.

In short give yourself to others and they will find healing just like the man in Acts 3:1-9

So open your eyes and look for that needy person who is waiting for some of your love to heal and transform their life.

Ask God for that opportunity to reach out and share His love today.

DELICIOUS FRUIT

"I Am the vine; you are the branches" John 15:1-15 NLT

Real disciples stay connected to the vine. The word "remain" is found 7 times in this passage.

To remain means "remain connected" to Jesus at all times. When we stay connected here is one powerful result.

We "branches" get pruned back for greater harvest. So is God now pruning you?

Out of your painful experiences comes a very wonderful and significant basket full of fruit.

Don't despise the cutting and trimming. It may be very ugly at the time but after the surgery and humiliation comes a "farmers market" full of ripe, delicious attractive and mature fruit.

Are you now in the pruning season? Just wait for the fall harvest. And remember that the pruning season comes months before the harvest.

You must wait for the results but the fruit is well worth the wait.

LOVE

"A new commandment I give to you"

Everyone wants love and everyone needs love.

It is easy to love some people and difficult to love others.

The power and ability to love comes from the Spirit of God. When I abide in the Spirit His power enables me to love anyone and everyone.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE

Jesus words "a new commandment" is new because it defines the way He wants us to love others. "Love as I have loved you" John 13:34

The manner in which He loves raises the standard to loving unconditionally, sacrificially, incessantly and more.

Only God can love that way, but it is God the Spirit who indwells and grows the fruit in us. The fruit of love!

So why not put that fruit to effective use when you encounter those difficult people?

SEE THE POWER

The blind man was sightless for 38 years. [John 9] People always question WHY?

Today we ask the same kind of questions. WHY? This illness, accident, cyclone, earthquake happened to us?

Jesus said, "He was born blind so the power of God could be seen in him." God did not cause the blindness. But God did cause the healing!

God takes a bad thing and finds a good outcome. And because of the miracle many people believed in Jesus.
God has great power and great results for you.

BONUS PRAYERS

Do you know about "bonus prayers"?

Serious prayers are heavy duty big difficult major burdens!!!!

Bonus Prayers are the icing on the cake, the special blessings,...the extra things,....the little surprises which are fun and above the ordinary.

On our recent trip to Yosemite with Pastor Mark and Sasha we enjoyed "bonus prayers".

Beautiful waterfalls, bright sunny days, fluffy white clouds, dogwood trees in bloom along with flowering purple plum trees.

We [Pam and I] also prayed to see the wild life in the park. What a surprise when I returned from the shower room at 6:15 am to be greeted by a very spunky and bold bear only 15 feet away from my cabin door. My heart was racing as I grabbed my camera and got a parting shot of his backside. I immediately remembered "bonus prayer"

Our second bear experience was leaving the park and seeing a huge black bear feeding in the meadow. He was in no hurry and we all got great photos of our "bonus prayer"

Let God surprise you with "bonus prayers". He often does exceeding abundantly above all we could ever ask or think.

God loves his children and loves to surprise them and please them. Try praying "bonus prayers". Then write me and let me know what God has done for you. Send me an email.

NOT A PRETTY WORD

Sacrifice Sacrifice Sacrifice

Jesus was the world's greatest sacrifice.

The Bible asks us to also live sacrificially. But doing that means...well... self denial and self discipline. I don't do well with those ugly words.

So what exactly is it that a believer should be sacrificing?

I sacrifice my right to choose my path, my destiny,my direction in life. It was Jesus who taught us these words. "not my will but thy will be done"

I sacrifice my right to selfish pleasures. Of course there are endless numbers of these, according to each individual. Samson was a notorious example of selfish pleasures and his life ended like all who pursue the path of selfishness.

God also asks me to sacrifice my time for the needs of others. This means basically living to help others as my goal in life. The good Samaritan sacrificed so much of everything to serve the wounded man.

These are just a few ways to obey God in this command. Now look at the results of this kind of discipleship.

Rom.12:1-2 is very clear. 1st. Result is ...God is very well pleased. 2nd Result...It produces a dramatic transformation in my life. 3rd Result.... I am renewed in my life and power. 4th Result... God declares it is His perfect will for me.

Who could ask for any better results than these? So I will work on practicing these things and hope you will join me too.

RIGHT TIMING

"It may not happen overnight but God's timing is always right"

Believe it and receive it.

Our son's truck was stolen last October when we were returning from Baja on our Mission trip. After many great answers to prayer this had to happen!!

Whenever we have a problem our first response is usually WHY?

Why me? Why now? Why so hard? Why so painful? Why so hateful? And so on and on...

But God's ways are not our ways and to try and discover why is usually futile and leads to negative anxiety and bitterness. So don't ask that question.

Ask WHAT...... What do you want me to do with this problem?

Pray in all circumstances....Pray without ceasing.... Pray in faith nothing doubting.... Pray persistently...

So we started praying for the insurance company to pay. This was our earnest and faithful request. We prayed and our family prayed and our church prayed. It has now been 6 months of praying.

"It may not happen overnight but God's timing is always right"

Guess what? Last week the insurance company paid up.

So I encourage you. Ask...Seek...knock...and don't stop until God gives His answer. IT WILL BE AWESOME!!

GREAT SONG

God will make a way
When there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to his side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way
He will make a way.

Believe It

Accept It

Expect It and...

Wait patiently for it! Then God will make a way.
What ever your dilemma might be He WILL make a way. Jer. 29:11

HE IS RISEN!!

It was the greatest event in all history.

His resurrection is still life changing today.

This is what I get from the resurrection.

I get life after death. His power proves that the grave is not the end. He said that because he lives, we too shall also live. I get a new life after death and I also get to be with family and loved ones who have also believed and moved on ahead beyond the grave.

My brother Ralph who was two years younger than I died on the operating table from heart complications. That was many years ago but he is alive and healthy today in heaven. I will see him again. We will be reunited. What an exciting reward.

Because of the resurrection I get so many things. I get my sins forgiven and new life. I get the promise of a great reunion and I get the power of God to live the way I should. His awesome power becomes my daily power to use instantly. See Eph. 1:19 NLT

I hope you will live out the message of the resurrection power of God.

A LITTLE SACRIFICE

Goes a long ways with God. In fact it will produce great results, huge results! Whatever we give or give up to God is an astounding investment.

People often think if I give it up or give it away I'll never see it again.

"I once gave away a car and it was gone. Nothing happened." Another person said, "I remember giving away my furniture, my favorite clothes and my tools and they were gone. Nothing happened."

Here is the defining MOTIVE. Why did I give or sacrifice or make a financial gift? Peter said, "We've given up everything to follow you." Peter did it to follow Jesus. That was his motive. What is your motive? Mark 10:28-31

Right motives produce right results. The results are such a miraculous return on your gift or sacrifice. Jesus said it will be 100 fold on all that is given.

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

Jesus asked this question of blind Bartimaeus. We notice that he is absolutely desperate. When Jesus came he started yelling and wouldn't stop. People tried to quiet him but he just yelled out all the more. There is something about being desperate that motivates us to action. Wouldn't it be special if we would seek God wholeheartedly without the need to be desperate?

Bartimaeus was desperate, but he was also very definite in what he wanted. He said, "I want to see." Mark 10:46-52. In coming to God with our requests it is important to ask specifically what we truly want. The blind man did that and also one more thing. We realize his great dependence on God. We call it faith. Without faith we cannot please God.

Here is our great example in one blind man. He had focused desperation along with a definite specific request and a strong dependence of faith. So I ask you today. "What Do You Want?"

AMAZED

We are amazed at the beauty of a sunset, the wisdom of a great saint, the awesome sight of Mt. Everest, and the strength of an Olympic weight lifter.

Our amazement blossoms with the spring flowers and the laughter of a wonderful little baby.

The seven wonders of the ancient world were amazing and especially the great pyramids of Egypt with a height of 450 feet and 2,300,000 stone blocks each weighing 2.5 tons.

These are all amazing to us but do you know what is amazing to God?

Jesus was amazed at the people of Nazareth because of their UNBELIEF. His life, ministry, and miracles were greatly limited because the people of his own town harbored unbelief. Mark 6:6

Is that you're stumbling block? Reject the doubt, fears, decisions and desires that harbor unbelief. Pursue every opportunity with FULL FAITH.

Making It Work

What makes life work for you?

It is a matter of the heart. The Bible says "guard your heart".

When I am "Wholehearted" for God life works really well.

Notice three kings 1] King Saul -- he had many great problems with life because of disobedience. He had NO HEART for God. 2] King Solomon -- he also had great problems and forgot his wisdom given him from God. He was HALF HEARTED. 3] King David -- he was the apple of God's eye because he was WHOLE HEARTED for God.

My life always goes better whenever I am WHOLE HEARTED in what I do for God. When I neglect my full devotion and love to God then undesirable things always happen. You experience these things too, like worry, weaknesses, wrong thinking and actions take over and spoil true joy and success.

The secret to "making it work" is living Wholeheartedly for Him. Try it and you will be greatly surprised!

9 RELATIONSHIPS

There are nine basics. Do a little inventory. Ask yourself, how is my relationship to:

1] God
2] Myself
3] My spouse
4] My family
5] Church
6] Work & boss
7] Money & finances
8] Society & community
9] My friends

If #1 is not right then very likely the others will be stressed, broken or non-existent.

So what about you and God today? "You shall have no other gods before me" "Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only".

Question? Is there something which you recognize needs correction?

Put Him first and He will put you first. Matt. 6:33 Then you will discover the joy of the Lord and other relationships will positively change in dramatic ways. Try it and you will see what God will do for you.

GOOD THINGS

Expect good things to happen every day! One of the special qualties of God's servants was this expectation.

Notice What They Expected:
Abraham expected to become the father of many nations ...
and it happened.
Isaac expected his servant to return with a bride for him...and it happened
Jacob expected God to bless him as he wrestled with an angel that scary night...and it happened.
Moses parents expected their son to survive the trauma in the bulrushes that night...and he did and became the great emancipator.
Joseph expected his dream to come true ...and he became the powerful Prime Minister of Egypt.

God wants good things for you. He promises good things to happen for you. He waits to shower you with many benefits.

You are His child and He is your Father and Friend and Protector and King. Let Him reward you with many extra gifts and loving enjoyments.

We often miss these blessings because we are not looking for them and neglect seeing them. Read Matt. 7:11

Look for his generosity everyday. You will be surprized at what He does for you daily.

GOD OF POWER

We saw the mighty oceans roar one day on our hike along the Napali Coast.

They were the largest waves I have ever seen in my life.

They roared like the sound of a jet plane at SFO.

They burst high into the air 40 feet and more.

They came onto shore with ever increasing power.

We could see their beauty in the sunlight and feel the thunder in our ears. We could sense the energy and tremble at the irresistible force.

I experienced a huge lesson from Almighty God with His Almighty Ocean.

His power is unstoppable.
His beauty is incomparable.
His presence is undeniable.

"Mightier than the violent raging of the sea, mightier than the breakers on the shore, the Lord above is mightier than these" Ps. 93:4

God wants you to know His power, beauty, and presence. Ask and you shall receive!

IT IS MY TURN

"Give as freely as you have received" What have you received this past week?

Well, let me see.
I have received love, joy, and peace.
Also three meals a day,a warm bed and roof over my head.
I have received phone calls from my friends.
I have received forgiveness from God and others.
I have received patience and love from my spouse.

There is a long list from which I benefit. Since it is a blessing to receive it all it is a greater blessing to give it all.

So now this week it is my privilege to give help to others; to give friendship to the lonely; to give forgiveness to those who offend me; to give patience to those who irritate me and to give love to everyone I meet.

WHAT KIND OF A PERSON ARE YOU?

"What I believe about God is the most important thing about me." These are the words of the famous author, A. W. Tozer.

If I believe that God is some kind of an evil judge just waiting to punish people and send them to hell, then I am probably a vindictive, bitter, and critical person who is wanting to pay back everyone who wrongs me.

If I believe God is loving, kind and patient, waiting for people to get their act together so they can enjoy God and heaven someday, then I am probably also very kind and tender with the same qualities and deeply want to help others get to know God so they will be ready for a new life in heaven.

The Scripture says, "Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another just as God through Christ has forgiven you." Eph. 4:31 NLT

WHAT ARE YOU GIVING ??

"It is more blessed to give than to receive". Those were the words of Jesus.

So what are you giving this year? Mary gave her life. Joseph gave his obedience. Shepherds gave their worship. Wisemen gave their treasures.

It all started with God the Father. "For God so loved the world that He gave... His only Son".

We learn to give from our Heavenly Father. God gave us everything when He gave His Son Jesus to the world.

So what are you giving this year for Christmas? The real joy of life is giving. Why not determine now that you will give to God and others this year.

P.S. "God loves a cheerful giver"

AVOIDING RISK ??

It is easy to live in paranoia. Fear is everywhere.

However consider this, believers should not fear. They should be risk takers, and people of great faith, and those who walk in obvious trust. This amounts to living on the edge for God.

Remember, "trust God with all your heart" "live as sheep in the midst of wolves" and prepare to do battle with the "Goliaths" of life.

Our lives are full of faith filled risks. We can't succeed without potential failure. We can't have victory without possible defeat.

Life should be risky for ever believer.

Remember, "without faith it is impossible to please God". The greatest of all risks is trying to avoid risk. Faith requires all Christians to risk.

What are you risking for God today?

MY GRANDSON CALEB

Last week I told you about our new grandson. Now look at the very first Caleb in the Bible.

Caleb was a faithful follower of God. Caleb and Joshua were scouts sent to checkout the enemy who occupied the Promised Land. Other scouts said "no we can't go" the enemy is too strong. They are giants and we look like grasshoppers. Caleb said, we can conquer them and "don't rebel against the Lord and don't be afraid of the giants".

Caleb had a giant faith in God and he boldly stood up against them. Even though Israel waited forty five years to fulfill Caleb's promise it finally came to pass. Caleb's prediction came true and he was honored for it.

Now at this time Caleb was eighty five years old, this is what he said, "I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey...so I'm asking for that hill country the Lord promised me." Joshua 14-15

The hill country was still full of giants and at eighty five he and his men conquered the giants of the land.

Caleb is a powerful name. It describes a man of courage who was fearless and faithful to God, even into his old age. I want my grandson to be a Caleb in todays world where there are many giants to defeat.

You can conquer giants too. Don't be afraid ask God to make you faithful and fearless and see what happens.

NOTHING COMPARES

To the experience of seeing a brand new baby. I watched this perfect little innocent gift from God shortly after he was born. He was perfectly formed with a beautiful pink body and fuzzy reddish blond hair. The scrub nurse did her job. I watched her literally scrub every inch of his tiny 7lb 4oz frame as if he had just emerged from a rough and tumble little league game.

New life, new bath, new people, new world to experience and a new everything to enjoy. I know because I'm his grandpa and I saw him myself.

Anyone want to have a new start in life? A fresh new beginning? A chance to be pure and clean again? There is a man who can do it all for you. His name is JESUS!

He did it for dirty fishermen, cheating tax collectors, wild people of the street, the rich, the poor, the powerful and powerless.

Yes it is possible to have a fresh new beginning that is just as beautiful as a newborn child. You can begin anew with God. "If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Now that is a fresh new and wonderful start. Try it; you'll want that new beginning and freedom. It will open your eyes to a new world just like my new grandson.

HOLD ON LIGHTLY

On our recent trip to our Baja Mission, our missionary friend Angela told us about her losses. Her trailer burned to the ground while she was away in Canada. While we were returning home we also had a great loss. Our son's truck was stolen with the possessions of eleven of our team members. After we returned home we learned that our friends Seana and Ramon were evacuated from their home because of the firestorm in Escondido. All great tragedies!!! God is speaking--- Hold possessions lightly but hold God tightly. No one knows what tomorrow will bring. Hold God tightly and pray "thy will be done". Can you say, God is all I need?

THANKFUL

Yes! I'm thankful my home is not in Iraq. Yes! I'm thankful my income is not $2.00 per day. Yes! I'm grateful my house is not made of cardboard and plastic sheeting. Yes! I bless God for my daily "Lovastatin" that covers my cholesterol. Yes! I'm grateful for the measure of health that lets me exercise and run every day. Yes! I'm thankful I live in California even though it is the land of fruits and nuts. Of course I'm appreciative of the freedom to hop on a bus, train or plane and go anywhere I choose. Sure! I'm thankful for modern conveniences that make life easy and beds comfy.

You know I'm thankful for the Good News, the Bible, freedom of faith, and a Great Savior But I'm also thankful for Cornerstone friends and family.
INVINCIBLE?

Hardly true! That's teenage stuff. Adolescents think nothing bad will ever happen to them, they can do anything. Kids always want their kicks but never realize there is a kickback --which is way too expensive and sometimes even costing their lives or lives of others.

But this blog is not about teens. It is about adults who do the same things or act the same way. We adults also think invincible applies to us. We assume, "I'll never get terminally ill or robbed or involved in identity theft. We think those things happen to others but not us." James the brother of Jesus, tells us life is a mist, a fog, or a puff of vapor. Life is here momentarily and then vanishes.

Therefore don't think "invincible". Don't say, "It will never happen to me; my life will never be shortened without notice." Instead you ought to say-- [James 4:15] "If it is the Lord's will we will live and do this or that". So may I ask you today, are you prepared? Could you let go of life today? Would you be happy to see Jesus now? Your answer should be a great motivator to do whatever necessary to get prepared. Don't be an adolescent; we already have enough in our world.

SILENT BUT NOT ABSENT

Are you disturbed by the silence of God? Some people are! They get nervous when He doesn't immediately answer. Many begin to question why. Some feel guilty, "I must have done something wrong - I don't have enough faith - He won't answer me because I am too weak." Still others deny His love or power. But these are all so very wrong. Listen to Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God." Also, Psalm 23:2 "He leads me beside the quiet waters."

Please notice that the silence and quietness and gentle waters are all signs of His wonderful presence. God is there even though He may be silent. Therefore, calm down, settle down, slow down, don't put yourself down, or don't put God down! Read these verses with faith, love and power. "Be still and know that I am God"--"I am here in your midst right with you." I am the ever present God in control of your crisis or fear. Reflect on His silence as the profound nearness of a loving God who surrounds you on all sides. It is O.K. to have a silent God for He will speak to you when it is the proper time.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Approximately 3000 people died in NYC at the World Trade Center. It was so sudden, so unexpected, so threatening to each one of us. Remember how the spiritual concern of people suddenly soared? Everyone seemed to go to church that next week. People started praying again. Churches blossomed out again. Many were afraid and some were even afraid of God. Was it a precursor to U.S. judgment? A simple breach of U.S. security? A wave of terrorism that will be with us forever?

Today few people talk about the attack except on its anniversary each year, but the lessons are clear. No one is exempt; everyone is mortal. Everyone has an appointment with death and the Almighty God. Be ready; get ready. know that this one life is so very temporary. We have NO GUARANTEES. Today is the day of getting right with God... Do not harden your heart .Do not tempt God but rather repent and embrace God, and you will be prepared for any future crisis or judgment. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life." Choose Jesus today! No one knows what may happen tomorrow.

SEE THE GLORY OF GOD

Jesus said, "If you believe you will see the glory of God." Powerful words for Mary and Martha whose brother had just died! What a crisis to lose a loved one or to lose a job and income or any other valuable possession. Faith in action is believing in the face of adversity and opposition. So... what is God asking you to believe in spite of problems and pressure? Faith is nothing, exactly nothing, like a big fat zero, unless we engage it in action. Faith is just so many words unless we truly do something useful with it.

The brother of Jesus talked about "dead" faith. He meant useless, worthless, wasted words [denial] that are religious in nature but void of power in reality. Faith means... I must know it in my head and then practice it in my heart. Mary and Martha did see the glory of God because soon Jesus raised brother Lazarus from the dead. Now is the time to resurrect your faith and put it into action.

Here is a simple prayer...

"Dear God, by faith I am asking you to show me the glory of God in this area of life that is now a problem for me [Tell God your concern] and I thank you for this answer I will receive whenever you want to reveal it to me. Thank you for being my great God. Amen."

Now look for the glory of God. It may come in surprising ways... ways you may not anticipate so keep yours eyes open and your faith tuned into what may happen next. P.S. please email me with your answers from God. Send to ronp@cornerstonelodi.com

GO AHEAD... LET GO

People say it all the time... "Let Go and Let God", but no one really puts it into practice. Even if we do we soon, very soon take it back again. Let go means let go of fears, worries, insecurities, prejudice and most of all control. We are all control freaks. Jesus teaches us how to really let go. Remember "not my will but thy will be done". Pray it. Mean it! You can avoid disaster if only you will follow the master.

Yes of course, letting go is a struggle. Jesus had to pray this prayer three times. Also the Apostle Paul had to pray three times about his thorn in the flesh before he learned to let go. But letting go is worth the struggle. It puts God in charge of those worries, fears, and many others issues.

Try it.

Let God for once in your life be in charge. The Lord knows that you have certainly made a huge mess of things already. Right? Give God a chance to be all that He said. The results are utterly amazing. "Avoid Disaster--Follow the Master".

MOST VALUABLE

You are His most valuable creation. Jesus said that He takes care of the birds of the air and the lilies of the field and you are far more valuable than they are. When was the last time you said, "I am valuable to God"? Stop a moment and say those words. Go ahead and try it. Was it hard to say? Is it hard to believe? What about practicing that lifestyle?

Many times our problem is devaluing ourselves before the One who greatly and highly values us. We are of great worth and highest esteem in the eyes of the Almighty God. I guess it is time to look at life through His eyes and not ours. Notice Matt. 6:25-34. Note what He says about worry and the importance God places on His promise to care for us His valuable creation. Jesus said not to live like pagans! Therefore recognize your special value and "never fear because God is near".

TOO TIRED, TOO OLD TO TRAVEL?

Not Abraham. At 75 years of age he made the biggest journey of a lifetime. Not knowing yet going. That was he. God said to him in Gen. 12 leave your country, leave your people, leave your household [family and possessions] and go to a land I will show you. If Abraham can do it so can you.

Do what? Live by faith, start something new, obey God without knowing the end results, and stop questioning everything God chooses to do in your life. So don't wait till you are 75 years old to get the message. What challenge lies ahead for you today? Where can you right now start living by faith? Just like Abraham the results for you will be immensely rewarding! So get ready to go places this fall for God. Anyone for a Baja journey to reach the lost in villages filled with kids and those with no knowledge of God? Did anyone dare to say "too tired or too old"?

YOUR NEED TODAY

Life is full of many needs. Losing a loved one reveals my need for comfort. Losing a job reveals my need for financial help. Losing my best friend reveals my need for companionship. Losing my health reveals my need for healing. Losing my temper reveals my need for patience. Losing my self discipline reveals my need for self control. Losing my joy reveals my need for letting go of expectations.

What is your need today? Jesus came to be the answer to our every need. He said, I Am Light in a dark world; I Am Bread in a hungry world; I Am Water in a thirsty world; I Am the Door in a world without entrance to God. Jesus is everything you need in life. When all else has failed try Jesus. "AVOID DISASTER and FOLLOW THE MASTER"

WHEN GOD SAYS GO... DON'T SAY NO!

I am writing to you from Simferopol Ukraine. We are teaching pastors, encouraging believers, serving children and experiencing God's presence. This week we will do an orphan ministry, some painting tasks around the church, go pray for an opposition community that does not welcome our young pastor and his church into their neighborhood. Satan is working hard to keep our church out of this community. It is a direct attack on the gospel and this little church. Our nine person team is working well together. We are excited about Pastor Mark and Sasha's Celebration on Saturday at 4pm. It will be a huge blessing and opportunity to present the gospel to many un-churched people. Please read our daily blog of activities at http://www.cornerstonelodi.com/missions.php. Thank you for praying for us.

GREATEST THRILL IS DOING GOD'S WILL

Our most recent Outdoor Worship Service was so evident of God's great blessing. We had such an outstanding attendance, terrific worship and great food with everyone involved as servants. This awesome day included at least 14 guests, with lots of kids in the pools and 5 individuals getting baptized. God is showing His presence in wonderful ways.

Our Mexico Team is in full preparation for the fall trip to Baja on Oct. 6-13. If you are interested email us for full details.

Our Ukraine Team is only days away from departure[July 13-25 ]. Please pray for this most important mission to Simferopol. Our burden is encouraging many believers in the spiritual battles going on in their churches. Fulfilling God's will is not always easy here at home or anywhere we serve but it is the most exciting and rewarding of all. Continue to do God's will and you will know it is the greatest thrill. P.S. You can follow our Ukraine adventure on the web. Look under "Missions" starting on or about July 15th.

YOUR GOD IS TOO SMALL... UNLESS

He is the God of the impossible! It is impossible for iron to float or for Noah to build a large enough boat. It is impossible for Lazarus to rise and walk or the speechless to talk. It is impossible for the poor to be rich or the sheep to stay out of the ditch...unless you have the God of the impossible. "With man it is impossible but with God all things are possible" Discover the God of the impossible yourself. Come see and find love joy peace purpose and power. These are all possible from the God of the impossible.

HOSPITAL FOR HURTING; NOT A RETIREMENT HOME FOR SAINTS

What is your view of church? Jesus said he came to heal the sick, not those who are well. Sometimes people get it backwards. They think church is this collection of wonderful people like Saints who have arrived and solved all life's problems. Some think it's a retirement home or museum where the righteous and self-righteous are on display.

But not true, church is for the beat up and burned out. Jesus came for the weak, wild, weary and especially the wicked. Who said church is full of hypocrites? Of course it is! It is also full of liars, gossips, discouraged, and others who have come to get healed. Church is a hospital for everyone who hurts and for those sick of losing out on the real meaning of life.

Come as you are. Welcome to our Hospital.
